Propaganda is described as deliberate, systematic attempts to shape perceptions."Propaganda limits the application of thought."(Ellul,1) These limitations lead to the suppression of all critical judgment as man becomes incapable of his individual thoughts and judgments. The individual who can no longer judge for himself because he is unable to view the world objectivity, for the Propagandee views the world through their given subjective lens. Instead of critical thinking and evaluating the facts or consorting with experts in given fields the Propagandee is given ready made value judgments and prejudices. Once propaganda is used on a person they can never ever have their own individual thoughts again. For every thought constructed is just a re-assembly of previously expressed opinions fitting the propaganda's agenda.
“Voice of America” is the official radio and television broadcasting service of the United States federal government. VOA provides a wide range of programming for broadcast onradio, television and the internet around the world in 44 languages, promoting a positive view of the United States. “Voice of America” is government sponsored "White propaganda", promoting positive views of the United States. Since "white propaganda" is identified as correct information with an identified source; it is considered the "best" form of Propaganda since it doesn't spread blatant lies or fabrication. "The Voice of America" and its propaganda is necessary to combat that anti-American White, Grey or Black propaganda of other countries or terrorist organizations around the world. If "the voice of America" did not spread correct white propaganda about America and if other countries/organizations anti-American propaganda is the only message being heard internationally, this would lead to much MORE anti-American sediment and most likely lead to more terrorism and dead U.S. Soldiers abroad. It is important for American's to understand what VOA represents and its mission because it helps protect the freedoms that we tend to take fore granted. It is interesting to note examples where America propaganda "worked" and other examples where it did not work. The most common form of Propaganda that the United States regularly uses today is "omitting" information or facts it deems "classified" or on a need to know basis. Intelligent America's would like to know the information that the government is hiding and with the rise of the internet and wiki leaks the United States Government is becoming more transparent than ever before. This is good news for conspiracy theorists, yet not good news for the U.S. military or its support for the current occupations. One of the most recent news leaks that the Pentagon does not want you to know about features censored photos that you will not see on any major news broadcast not only because of the violent content of the photos but because the Pentagon went to extraordinary measures to suppress the photos, launching a massive effort to find every file and pull the pictures out of circulation before they could set off a scandal on the scale of Abu Ghraib. For first five months of last year, a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan went on a shooting spree, killing at least four unarmed civilians and mutilating several of the corpses. The “kill team” – members of the 5th Stryker Brigade stationed near Kandahar – took scores of photos chronicling their kills and their time in Afghanistan. The images – more than 150 of which have been obtained by Rolling Stone – portray a gruesome front-line culture among U.S. troops in which killing innocent civilians is seen as a cause for celebration. “Most people within the unit disliked the Afghan people,” one of the soldiers told Army investigators. “Everyone would say they’re savages.”Many of the photos depict explicit images of violent deaths that have yet to be identified by the Pentagon. Among the soldiers, the collection was treated like a war memento and as if the pictures were not enough of a gruesome reminder Andrew Holmes one cut off the finger of the 15 year old civilian Afghan boy that they murdered at point blank range, and carried it around in a zip-lock bag. One unidentified solider was quoted as saying “He really loved his finger”(Boal, Rolling Stone) Andrew Holmes and Corporal Jeremy Morlock threw a grenade at the unarmed boy farming a field by himself, in an attempt to make the killings seem legitimate. Commanding officers found it strange that a young boy would attack with just a grenade and a nothing else in broad daylight. He held nothing in his hand that could be interpreted as a weapon, not even a shovel. Morlock later confessed “The expression on his face was welcoming. He was not a threat…” To make this worse the military industrial complex and military leaders could have dealt with the problem, but choose to cover it up and suppress it. If we would admit our wrong doings, I think we would have more support internationally. When the government time after time lies about facts or covers up the truth it takes credibility away from the United States. If the United States government had more transparence and did not partake in shady covert C.I.A. coups, murders, and drug smuggling
then we would truly be the "good guys". Fortunately for this country it has had better attempts at government sponsored propaganda then this before. During World War II it was not just a racist misconception that we were fighting a war against savages. The Nazi’s were savages thus making them an easier enemy to defend military action against. Few historians would argue that the United States entering WWII was a bad thing. At the time the United States interned Japanese and German American's. With stories like the kill team and the growing body counts in our foreign wars support for today’s military involvement is harder to come by.

Censored Images What the Pentagon Does not want you to see. Warning this link features very violent images. NOT for Virgin eyes

However, once you see the Propaganda of other countries such as North Korea it makes our "white propaganda" look somewhat tame, As the American government's logic for suppressing allegations such as those above war crimes becomes more apparent. I would consider the "History" taught in public American high schools about the founding fathers bull-shit propaganda but again compared to the tacits used by other countries this is not so bad. But maybe I am conditioned to think everything in America is better because that is what we are told our whole life's and if we question America's greatness we are considered Un-American. America's dirtiest secrets are the ones that we don't know about, or the stories that have been manipulated. Overall, Voice of America and American Propaganda is needed to fight Anti-American Propaganda all over the world.
